Mäntsälä – From local collaboration to an international investment opportunity
Major data center projects take shape when a strong vision meets the right partners. In Mäntsälä, FCDC built the opportunity together with local stakeholders and secured the sale of the site to an international operator
Background
From the outset, the project progressed through close dialogue with the municipality’s economic development team, decision makers and local energy company Nivos. The Municipality of Mäntsälä brought an open, proactive and solution-oriented approach that proved instrumental to the project. Together, the parties assessed the site’s development potential, clarified the project’s objectives and built a shared understanding of the new vitality a data center investment could bring to the area.
FCDC’s role
FCDC secured the leasehold rights to the land and put the necessary grid-connection arrangements in place. Nivos brought valuable expertise and a forward-looking perspective: the collaboration created the conditions for investment in the Palomäki substation and strengthened the project’s delivery platform. In parallel with the site development work, FCDC mapped the international data center market and identified a suitable operator for the site.
Outcome
The project culminated in the successful sale of the site to an international operator. Mäntsälä demonstrates how local trust, effective energy-sector collaboration and international commercial expertise can turn an opportunity into a tangible investment.
