Mäntsälä 2 – Creating new potential from a challenging starting point
Not every development project starts with a blank slate. In Mäntsälä 2, FCDC identified an opportunity to create new value from a site whose starting point called for both commercial initiative and practical problem-solving.
Background
FCDC acquired the leasehold rights to the land from a bankruptcy estate and expanded the site by adding an adjacent plot. This created a stronger and more attractive platform for data center development. Extensive and constructive cooperation with the Municipality of Mäntsälä has been an important part of shaping the area’s future.
FCDC’s role
FCDC approached the energy infrastructure as an integrated whole. In close discussions with the local distribution network company, the parties explored backup-power solutions and ways to utilize waste heat from the data center. The collaboration established the possibility of locating both waste-heat recovery infrastructure and a centralized backup power facility on the site.
Outcome
This approach creates opportunities to align the technical requirements of a data center with the development of the surrounding energy infrastructure. Above all, Mäntsälä 2 is a story of recognizing potential: even a challenging starting point can be turned into a strong foundation for new growth. It also reflects FCDC’s way of looking beyond plot boundaries and seeking solutions that create value for multiple stakeholders.
