Vaasa – Bold vision, strong partnerships
The Vaasa project reflects FCDC’s approach at its most ambitious: looking beyond a single plot to unlock the long-term potential of an entire area.
Background
Initial discussions with the City of Vaasa began in December 2023 and developed into focused, long-term project development. FCDC brought market insight to the dialogue, highlighting how the evolving data center sector and international investment could open new opportunities for Vaasa.
FCDC’s role
FCDC took part in the site competition, progressed the land-lease arrangements and led the planning of the site. The development work has included advancing the building permit and a grid-connection agreement with the local network company. Coordinating these elements is essential for an investment of this scale. Active involvement from the city leadership, elected representatives and public officials has also been highly valuable. Vaasa’s strong industrial base, energy-sector expertise and development-oriented approach create an exceptionally attractive environment for the project.
Outcome
Throughout the project, our perspective has extended beyond the data center itself. Collaboration opportunities have been explored with the district-heating operator, and discussions have also identified potential for university partnerships. The aim is to create a project whose impact reaches across the local business community, energy collaboration and skills development. Vaasa shows how bold vision and long-term cooperation can lay the groundwork for investments of tomorrow’s scale.
